Junior Shooting Program
Spokane Junior Rifle Club/Team: Program is up and running – any interested Parent (member or not) is most welcome to come on any Tuesday evening to look, ask, learn. Parents need not be members for their child to join.
JUNIOR SHOOTING: A review of club records, starting in 1916, shows the first time Junior Shooting is officially mentioned was January 1938. Junior shooting programs and clubs since that time have always been supported by dedicated members of the SRC. The Spokane Rifle Club continues to support junior shooting programs. Mike Furrer is the Board member responsible for our junior program. Thanks - and if you are interested – contact him.

Greetings from the Spokane Junior Rifle Club
The following information is provided to introduce our program and hopefully, will answer your basic questions.
Purpose: To train young people in the sport of Smallbore target shooting. We teach the basic skills needed to participate in what has become one of the world’s most challenging popular sports. Particular emphasis is placed on safety.
The Sport: Shooting is a sport practiced by people all over the world. Every sport tests different athletic powers. Some test strength, speed or coordination. Shooting test how well you control your mind and body in using a rifle to hit the center of a target. It may be hard to imagine being able to control your body well enough to hit a target the size of a dime half a football field away, but in shooting that is just what you will learn to do. It is a participation sport and competition is encouraged. Shooting is an Olympic Sport and is the third most popular Olympic sport, ranking only behind track and boxing in number of participating nations. Girls and boys compete equally. Size and strength are not the deciding factors in this sport. Some of the world’s best shooters are women.
The Club: The Spokane Junior Rifle club was restarted in 1995 after a long absence. The Coaches come from various shooting backgrounds and have been very successful in training young shooters. The Coaches and assistants are extremely talented teachers and motivators. We like to keep the team roster around 20 shooters ranging from 12 to 20 years of age in the club. Previous members have gone on to the US Army Marksmanship Unit, US Air Force Academy and College shooting teams to earn degrees on shooting scholarships. Parent involvement is encouraged and appreciated. Parents need not have shooting experience. Everyone helps in his-her own way.
Equipment: The club has all required equipment available. It is highly recommended that beginning shooters NOT BUY equipment until they have gained experience.
Cost: Annual junior club membership is $50.00. Ammunition will need to be supplied by the shooter however ammunition will be available for around $5.00 a box (a box contains 325 rounds). Fees for competition matches go from $4.00 to $25.00. A beginning shooter can expect to spend about $175.00 in fees during the first shooting year.
Range Location: The club’s home range is the Spokane Rifle Club’s indoor range.
Frequency: Practice is held one evening each week, usually on Tuesday, from September through May. Competition matches are held on weekends about once per month. Sometimes there may be several matches in one month.
Travel: Transportation to practice is the shooters’ responsibility. Car pools are available to matches, departing from the range. Travel is normally limited to nearby locations such as Coeur D’ Alene, Davenport, Pasco Bonners Ferry and Sandpoint. Additional matches are available on the West Side of the state also.
